Juan Orlando Hernández, the conservative candidate, has been officially confirmed as the new president of Honduras by the Tribunal Supreme Electorate. Thus far, the streets have been quiet, although the closest contender, Xiomara Castro Zelaya, pledges to fight the results. The streets in the capital continue to have a heavy security presence. The nation's president must confront problems plaguing the country such as murder, unemployment, gangs, and drug trafficking.

I am thankful that we have most of us in the US are blessed with peace and prosperity that most people in this world can enjoy aspire to.

Kim, I didn't expect this guy to win. Almost everyone I know supported Xiomara Castro Zelaya. Even in my nicer neighborhood, the cars sported her name. I think he's in because he promises to allow the military a relatively free hand in Honduras. Was he elected without voter fraud? I don't know. I do know that Honduras has had more stability in the past 100 years when the military has openly or covertly controlled the elections.
