Waiting Tables

I never waited tables for a living. When I was young, I thought nothing of waiting to eat at some trendy spot. Sometimes we waited more than an hour before our party would give up and move on. Now that I live in the volatile capital of Honduras, waiting on a table for a meal is unheard of. Empty tables and waiters beckon, but largely go unanswered.

It's not that way where I work. We have lots of children, but not many tables. We have been without sufficient tables for over three years. We eat with bowls balanced on our laps, which means the staff and children are quite familiar with the mop closet. With a renewed emphasis on learning this year, we would like to buy tables. It's proven more difficult for children to complete homework while seated in a chair or the floor than simply utilizing a bowl and cup while seated.

I purchased two collapsible tables a few weeks ago. For $50 each, I can buy more. Of course, I could hire someone to construct cheaper tables, but I prefer to buy tables so I can easily move them when we need open spaces for other activities.

 As you can see, the young ladies love the new tables. Or at the least, they love posing at the tables. 

I leave this post as is. It's not finished. Maybe I will report back with tales of new tables. I can only pledge to write of our experiences as we eat and learn.
