Does anybody doodle anymore? I used to spend lots of time in high school and in university classes doodling on notebook paper instead of taking notes. I never doodle now that I have a keyboard within arms reach at all times.
A few days ago, I found this hand-written note on Pinterest. I guess it's sort of a doodle. I liked it so much that I pinned it (with a a Post-It note rather than a pin) on the cabinet next to the computer. It's a basic verse that most in the Christian culture have heard many times.
I have been thinking. Where do I cast my anxiety lately?
Let's rephrase and fill in the blanks, shall we?
Cast all your anxiety on _______ because _______ cares for you.
I can tell you what I have been doing.
Cast all your anxiety on PIZZA because Pizza cares for you.
Does pizza care about my anxiety? No. It adds to it with bloating and extra calories.
Cast all your anxiety on Prozac because Prozac cares for you.
Prozac? Really, I take a low dose daily. It helps. I don't know if Prozac has the personable qualities needed when I am anxious. Xanax is not my friend either.
Cast all your anxiety on Your Therapist, Your best friend, your husband because THEY care for you.
True. But I need supernatural, omnipotent care sometimes. And for me, only Jesus fits the bill on that one.
I am re-learning this truth. What about you? Where are you casting cares?

I just realized with the test replies you've tested on me, I didn't even read the latest post. Actually doodling probably lowers stress for me. I'm certain that many well-intentioned doctors would disagree with me but I don't believe in long term drugs like prozac, xanax. I believe they are over prescribed because there is so much money in them.
You could be right about meds, Lisleman. I am better with certain medications than without. I have a friend who has OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder. With support and the right medication, she is markedly better. In fact, she could be a poster child for Zoloft as well as the support of her local Christian women's group. I don't think she would have stopped washing her hands incessantly or other behaviors without the support of medication.
