A Singular Neighborhood Park: Tegucigalpa, Honduras

Most everyone, no matter where you live, enjoy a day in a park from time to time. Parks are coveted green spaces in urban areas in particular. Tegucigalpa is no different in that regard.

Most parks here are neglected and in disrepair. Many have been taken over by gangs and prostitutes. This particular small park in my neighborhood has managed to hang on as a viable recreational area. It features a walking trail, basketball and soccer courts, as well as assorted (albeit somewhat broken) children's equipment. This park, which will remain nameless to protect my security, is in the center of my neighborhood. It's an easy walk to get there, and once one looks beyond the neglect, it can be a pleasant place to walk or entertain children.

Did I mention the parks that are renowned for tranvestites only? Teguz is a very interesting place after dark. Our park is locked and patrolled after hours.

I am learning about photography by just looking at photos from wonderful people on Google+. I don't play music anymore. I write and I shoot. Pictures that is. You know how I feel about shooting other things.

I noticed lately that restaurants, malls, and churches seems to be more and more the only safe places with playgrounds. I am happy they are playgrounds, but it limits it to parents who take a very concerted effort to make time for their children to enjoy those places.

As I no longer ticket the ivories, I have found other ways to express creativity. Who knows though? I feel more and more the need to play again.

I don't know if you are receiving double replies or not as I was having trouble with the Disqus comment system. I am glad, too, my park is still a park, not a gathering place for criminals.

I don't know if you are receiving double replies or not as I was having trouble with the Disqus comment system. The park has its own charm, but believe me, it took some time to look past the trash, neglect and disrepair.

I don't know if you are receiving double replies or not as I was having trouble with the Disqus comment system. Tegucigalpa has its challenges, but the neighborhood and the park are fairly safe.

Lots of adults use it daily for walking. And soccer in the afternoon is still popular with the boys in the neighborhood.

I don't know if you are receiving double replies or not as I was having trouble with the Disqus comment system. The park is full of trash, neglected gardens, and broken equipment. However, I was determined to find something good there. I did.

No duplicate comments on my blog. It is the one thing that does not seem to be going askew.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if someone would send a note. Thanks.
