Honduran Crisis Takes a Holiday?

According to an Associated Press source, the current political crisis will not be addressed until after the holiday season. Although there has been a serious impasse among the three branches of government resulting in almost complete government breakdown, the leaders have left town for the holidays.

The Supreme Court phones are going unanswered. The attorney general's office are not answering the phone, either. President Porfirio Lobo's office has not returned calls to the press about the crisis. As the vice-president explained, "We're going on Christmas vacation."

The army continues to patrol the streets day and night in Tegucigalpa, stopping motorists at checkpoints or patrolling streets on foot. Gunfire continues to interrupt the night. Violence has not taken a holiday in  Honduras.
